CHICAGO – A driver was killed when a large object went through the windshield of their vehicle Monday morning on the Dan Ryan Expressway.

What we know:
The crash blocked all outbound express lanes Monday ahead of the morning commute.

Illinois State Police said the crash happened around 5:10 a.m. when a large object went through the windshield of a vehicle traveling southbound on I-94 near 29th Street, striking the driver.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.

All outbound express lanes between the Stevenson Expressway and 31st Street were closed for several hours as authorities investigated. Traffic was diverted into local lanes, and it was not immediately clear when the express lanes would reopen.
